Saturday's workout was another challenge for me but it was great. We met at 8am at the park and started with a 1 mile run. This was the first time I actually ran (I mean RAN) around the entire trail the full 1 mile in the "up hill" direction without feeling like I was going to absolutely die at the very end. I do need to figure out my clothing in the cold weather. I started with my cold gear under armour, a long sleeve t-shirt, and my big bulky sweatshirt and by the time I was done with the 1 mile warm up, I had to shed the sweatshirt and long sleeve tee. Luckily it was a nice and sunny morning (unusual this time of year). I think I will try to find a vest and get some sort of thermal to wear under my under armour. That way I don't have to wear that bulky sweatshirt when I'm running.
After the 1 mile run, we went to the track and did 1/3 mile runs. I think the best time I had was just under 13 mins (I'm thinking Kinsey converted this to estimate what would have been a mile at that pace). Those 1/3 mile runs kicked my butt but I did it! The last one was the hardest as I had to stop a couple of times and try to throw up..literally. Sure wish I was successful as I think I would have felt a lot better. UGH After our run around the track, we did a little work out doing lunges, planks, and push up. I'm going to continue this every other day at home as well. Then Ali and I finished with a brisk 1 mile walk around the track.
We met up at the pool at 11am. I bought a kick board to practice my freestyle kick. Oh the burn! It was awesome though. I alternated kick board laps and free style laps. Then I swam 1/4 mile without touching the bottom, sides, or pushing off the pool in 17 mins. That will give me a time to beat and also assured me that I can swim the 1/4 mile during the tri. I burned over 1600 calories total during my run and swim on Saturday!!
Sunday was absolutely beautiful outside. 70 degrees without a cloud in sight. Joseph had baseball practice from 2-4pm at Greystone church so I ran around the building about 8 times just to get in some running. It was more like jogging. lol At least it was something.
Plans for this week...Tuesday I will hit the treadmill and do the (6) 1 min sprints at 5.5 mph followed by the work outs (lunges, planks, etc). Tuesday night is group swim!! I'm going to try to swim at least once this week but I need to get my contacts ordered. I hate not being able to see while I'm swimming. I'll miss Saturday's workout with the trainers but heading to Beaches reunion with the girls! We're going to run and swim and drink the weekend away!! =D

The forgotten blog.
Oooppss, I sorta, kinda, ummm...yeah, I forgot about this blog until the other day. I'm sure there's no one out there reading anymore but I am going to pick back up on it if only for my daily/weekly diary. I have officially signed up for the triathlon that I will do on June 4th. I'm excited and anxious all in one. I have great trainers who have a very structured program planned for us. I officially started last Saturday (1/22/11) and so far, so good. Admittedly, I hate running. I'd love to run like Forrest Gump but I have learned quickly that I am not a runner. I will however, continue to train and challenge myself if it kills me. The good news is that I have learned that I LOVE swimming. I was on swim team (rec) when I was in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade but never swam after that. In my adult life, I never even really like going under water as I have bad ear problems and getting water in my ears inevitably leads to ear infections but I went to the pool after our sprint training on Saturday and DID IT! I eased into it and realized it was like "riding a bike". I feel so comfortable in the water. I went back on Monday with a friend of mine to swim for about 30 mins and was able to swim non-stop for 8 laps in 12 mins. I have since learned it will be 10 laps for the 1/4 mile race so I will work on that next time. Tuesday night was our first group swim and I was glad to have learned some new techniques that I will be practicing to help me swim more efficiently. We used the kickboards for a lap and boy did that work my legs. Note to self: BUY A KICKBOARD! On Saturday, one of our trainers gave me a goal for this week on the treadmill. Run for 3 miles...during which I take a minute at a time to run at 5.5 mph for 6 times. I did this Monday morning and what a workout. I was able to go for 2.5 miles and only do it 5 times. My legs were like jello for that last time. I will try again tomorrow (Friday) and see how I do. Saturday will be another sprint training run and then off to the pool again. Weighed myself today and am down to 177 =D WOW, that scale was able to go below 180.
